Updating outdoor spaces can quickly become massive and overwhelming projects, sometimes before you even begin to do the work. There are simple decorations and ideas you can add to your space that will make it look like a completely different area without breaking the bank.
1. Reuse what you already have
Almost everyone has those old, metal folding chairs hanging out in their basement. Spray paint these chairs various colours and use them for when you have people over, and that way your guests do not have to remember to bring their own chairs.
2. Adjust the lighting
Daylight does not last forever but your guests may want to stay longer or your family might want to stay outside and enjoy the space, so you will need some lighting for your patio. For those on a budget that want some way of lighting the space you can use glow in the dark paint to cover your planters and you will have instant lighting to carry on well into the night.
3. Getting rid of any trees?
If you are planning to cut down trees in your backyard you can repurpose the tree stumps – especially if they were large trees. By keeping the stump and purchasing a nice table top you now have a really unique and interesting table for the center of your patio.
4. Add in some colour
You really enjoy the fire pit on your patio, but it is slowly becoming just a fire pit and there is nothing exciting about it. 5. Show off your garden
Your patio is definitely the center of your backyard, but why can’t you decorate the whole thing including the garden you have put a lot of work into? By purchasing some rope lighting you can lay it around the perimeter of your garden and add to the enjoyment of using your outdoor space after dark.
6. Go green
If you have an old chandelier, or other lighting piece, you can replace all of the bulbs with solar lights and hang it above your patio, or from a large tree in your backyard.
7. Reupholster old furniture
With a quick visit to your local fabric store you can quickly pick up some really bold fabrics: patterns, stripes, solids . . . whatever suits your fancy. You can easily make cushion covers to go over your existing patio furniture’s covers. It will look like you splurged on really expensive new furniture when all you did was buy some fabric and dusted off the old sewing machine.
8. Expand your garden
Flowers always add colour to any room, so don’t just keep your garden in your garden. Add some potted or hanging plants around your patio. This will help to add a sense of calm and cozy to the space.
9. Add some accent pieces
Your outdoor space is not that much different than your indoor one, except it doesn’t have walls. When decorating your home inside you thought of colours and accent pieces and how to make the pop of colour so why not do it outside too? If you have an old wicker chair you can complete this by purchasing some really bold cushions to accent the outdoor pieces you already have.
10. Use pallets for your furniture
Pallets are really cheap to get, usually. You can easily covert them into chairs and sofas for an outdoor space. Then by making cushions and pillows (or purchasing them) you can easily transform your space into a very cozy area with a natural feel since your furniture is wood.
It can be difficult to imagine transforming your space on a budget, but if you really do your research beforehand and you know exactly how you want your space to look at the end you can definitely reinvent your patio for a lot cheaper than you might think. Then you will have extra money to throw a huge party and celebrate in your new space.
