10 Tips for Hosting a Great Patio Party
It is always so much fun to think about all the parties you can throw during the summer because you have an amazing outdoor space, but sometimes when it comes down to actually planning them things can get a little crazy. Here are some tips to ensure your party is the party everyone is raving about for years to come.
Think About the Big Picture
If you don’t normally throw parties you might soon realize details can get out of control really quickly. To keep things in check, and on budget, write down everything you will need to buy or do for the party to make sure you have everything and are not blowing the budget in the beginning.
Get It Together the Day Before
Start by doing all the tasks you can do ahead of time: clean the pool, cut the grass, get the decorations out, make sure you have all the seating you need and so on. These tasks can be done a day or so ahead of time and that way you won’t be bogged down on the day of the party.
Choose a Theme
All great parties have a theme to them, so you should select a theme. Your guests will have a much better time when there’s a theme since it might allow them to dress up in a way they don’t normally get to.
Decorate
Since great parties have a theme to them, and yours is going to be a great party you should decorate based on the theme you chose. The décor will add a lot of fun, and pops of colour to your party so don’t be afraid to maybe go a little overboard here.
Choose Comfortable Furniture
Your guests will want to sit down, at some point, during your party so you should have cozy furniture. If they are comfortable they will have more fun at your party – which is exactly what you want. Here at Velago we offer some great deep seating patio sets that are sure to keep your guests relaxed and content.
Plan a Menu
People enjoy eating, and the food you serve at your party will be important for your guests. Make sure everyone has enough to eat, and keep it simple – outdoor space parties don’t require 3-course dinners, but rather you can make things on the BBQ and make salads to go with them. You should also plan to have a cooler outside with ice in it so you have a space to keep drinks close by, and that way guests don’t have to keep going in and out of your home.
Beverages
Summer patio parties are usually about relaxing, and that will likely involve drinks – both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Make sure you have a variety of drinks available if you haven’t made this party a BYOB event. If you are having a theme, see if you can find a couple drinks that go along with the theme.
Music
Most parties have some kind of music involved, but since you’re outside you might have neighbours to be concerned about. If that is the case then you can still have music, just be aware of any issues your close neighbours might have. You can also search for ideas to add to your playlist if you want to make sure your guests will really enjoy themselves.
Plan to Play Some Games
Everyone is coming to have some fun, and what is more fun than games? A good game of backyard Frisbee or football will definitely add to your party. If you can find games to go along with your theme then that will definitely make it even better.
Have a Plan B
No matter how solid your plan is there are things, like weather, that are out of your control. Make sure you have a plan in place – like to host inside – if the weather turns out to not be in your favour so that you don’t have to cancel your party altogether.
Hosting a party can be stressful, but if you ensure you have a plan in place and everyone has enough to eat and drink then there is no way your party won’t be an amazing time that people are talking about for summers to come.
