Pick me, pick me! Your next winner!!! Show me the money!!! We were bbq by the patio party. The chief caught fire yelling & jumping into the pool. The guest thought it was a pool party & they all jumped in too.
It would be a dream come true & means more to me than anyone else to win. Starving artist here desperately needs the $500 voucher to shop, have fun , feel alive & inspired again. A life changing experience. Top of my bucket list. Thank you for the awesomeness, the contest, & generousity.
my most memorable patio moment was getting a new patio set. when we bought our house it already had a table but it was in pretty bad shape. we waited so long to replace it it was falling apart quite the eyesore and safety hazard. so getting a new set was a moment for me, it made the house feel like ‘our house’.
I saw a guy on a patio acidentally set his facial hair on fire sipping a flaming sambuca
I met my future husband on a patio
My funniest patio story actually took place on my balcony. Three of my friends and myself were having some drinks outside and accidentally locked ourselves out on the balcony when one of my friends slammed my balcony door shut..a little too hard.. We were several stories up so climbing out was not an option. One of my friends started to really panic. We ended up getting the attention of the woman next door and discovered that she didn’t speak English! We were eventually able to get her to understand what we needed and thankfully the apartment door had not been locked, like it usually is, so she came over and rescued us. We laugh about this story every time we have some drinks together, especially if it’s on a balcony!
we once celebrated a bbq birthday party outdoors on the patio, it was a cloudy day, but it hasnt rained all day. out of nowhere, a fierce hailstorm started we all ran in but we laughed it out at the end!
The most memorable patio experience had to be when a family of racoons scared us off our patio and proceeded to eat our meal.
… With my husband working with a Police Force, he went walking on a backyard patio and he fell through. Yep, the wood was rotten to the core (lol)! Just another day for the men and women in BLUE!
My last patio moment was my birthday and I was celebrating with 4 girlfriends and cosmopolitans. There was a table of cute guys next to us and they picked up our drink tab!
we were all sitting around the campfire at the cottage, and as usual I had my camera in my hand.
I decided to shift the chair back a few feet ,to get a better shot, and I didn’t realize that the patio ended, and it was all downhill from there!
My last words as I tumbled backwards were “Save the Nikon!
I hosted a patio party last summer for all the ladies in my walking group…after going for a nice long walk we relaxed on the patio with wine and food…everything was going great until I lit the BBQ…..managed to burn my eyebrows…leaned in to far while it was on high….I was in shock at first but then laughed it off…lesson learned!
I loved watching my brother fall off the deck onto a cheap plast lounge chair, it shattered into a million pieces.
J learned to cook on a bbq on my patio
Last summer, in a huge windstorm, our patio table umbrella became airborn, flying over our fence, it speared itself right in the middle of our neighbours car roof. That umbrella turned out to cost us a great deal more than it was worth.
NOTE TO SELF: get new patio umbrella!
our children bougth us our last patio set for our anniversary. we love it and what a memory
My most memorable patio moment was getting stuck between two pieces of webbing!!The mat was off and we were cleaning!! Sat down and got wedged real good! Had to get my wifes help to get out of the chair!!
In the summer I will spend up to 8 hours sitting on my patio enjoying the sun!
Funniest story… I invited some friends over in high school when my parents were out. We are drinking (yeah, I know…) Long story short, I told my friends to be careful and not leave any evidence of the party. Well, my friend Chris was dancing and jumping around, and he broke a board on the patio. Leaving a gaping hole that I had to explain. I told my parents he did it and he has never lived it down.
A perfect summer evening BBQ on our patio with 4 friends where a Top Chef Canada finalist prepared and served a gorgeous 7 course meal for us. What an experience!
It happened a few years back, My girlfriend and I were sitting on the deck having a few drinks, on the chair swing. I did not have the cushion on, I said “we dont need it just yet, lol. Boy was I sure wrong, I said to her, have a seat, she said no ill stand for a bit. Not even 1 minute later, with my drink in my hand, I Fell throu the chair and landed on my tailbone, But I saved my drink 🙂 I will never forget that day.
The last time I was on a patio I saw a really old dog. It was sad because he was hardly able to walk but it looked happy to be outside.
Two years ago, we were hosting a wedding reception for our daughter in our backyard. Dining tents were up, tables set up, a nice area with patio furniture for relaxing. The rain came. The hail came. The cold came. The tents caved in, ruining most of the patio furniture, and wedding reception set up. We acted quick and moved everyone inside to a very squishy area. What should have been disaster turned into a very funny, well remembered event. Good humour goes a long way!
my most memorable moment was a little cafe in Hawaii, we sat on the patio by the ocean watching the cruise ships and enjoying the ocean breeze
I was afraid to go out to my patio because the squirrels moved in one summer and lived on my patio furniture. I had to buy everything new the next year!
We watched ass my bother & sis-in-law plus their 2 boys all sat down on same side of picnic table.Sis-in-law was pouring milk into glasses when the 4th person sat down. The table with weight all on one side went backwards and milk everywhere. We all had good laugh over it.
right now i am designing a cover for my patio/deck, as it is neither dry enough on rainy days or too hot on sunny days.
convincing my husband it is necessary (cost wise), necessary (his labour). this will make summer of 2013 on the deck memorable.
The funniest thing I saw happening on a patio was a bunch of us were sitting around a fire and this guy has flip flops on and has them fairly close to the fire and he is sleeping and pretty soon the bottom of his shoes are smouldering and well yeah those flip flops were toast.
A few years ago, we were celebrating a birthday party on our patio and my friend accidently tripped and caught herself by putting her full hand right into the birthday cake!
My most memorable moment was when we finished out patio in the backyard, it looked beautiful, and I did’nt have a nice patio set to display on it, needless to say many things were going on that year that we didn’t get to enjoy the backyard so I have still to find something, this would come in so handy and would make the backyard, a feeling of awwwwwwwww (relief)
Thank you for this contest.
I was on a patio last summer in Yaletown and got some personalized entertainment!A Majician came around to our table and started preforming tricks for me and all my friends. After that came free cotton candy! Couldn’t have been more exciting!
I cannot pick just one memorable patio moment. Some of the best times of my life have been spent on a deck. (Whether its been the cottage , the house or even the boat deck.) every summer we relax , we play , and entertain. My children now get to see what summer has to offer. This year we will be celebrating a 50th, a 30th, a 4th and a 1 year birthday out on our patio! Can’t wait!!!
My most memorable experience was going out on a date and ending up on a beautiful patio zipping wine. It’s so great to be able to be outside!!
I had been walking along my brick patio when I found myself soaked to the skin. I had hit a wet spot and slipped into the pond. Poor fish!! Luckily, it was a hot Okanagan day and I stood steaming in the sun. There is nothing you can do except laugh at yourself. It’s little “incidents” like this that dot my life and make my family call me “Grace”!
I threw my husband’s 40th birthday on my patio. We really didn’t have enough patio furniture so we started pulling out the old metal lawn chairs. As the night progressed, and more than one person started sitting on them, we had a many broken chairs the following morning.
My most memorable patio experience was last year at my parents house! My in-laws flew in from Newfoundland and hadn’t seen our son since he was 13 months old! It was so nice to see them and my son was so excited to see Nan and Pop and uncle Carson and Auntie Sharon 🙂 But none of us can still understand what Pop says cuz’ he speaks so darn fast in his Newfie accent 🙂
My most memorable experience is when I sit outside and there is no traffic and I can just hear the birds chirp and the wind blow. Its my own little corner of the world
My most memorable patio story comes from 2003! It was during the dead heat of summer and we lost power for 2-3 days due to a province wide power outage. Me, family, friends, neighbors, pets, etc all spent those days on our patio and in the pool. We also BBQ’d what we could before it went bad, and made whatever else we could via the BBQ. It was probably the best summer I can remember. There was no air conditioning or tv, people actually spent time together, all day and night on the patio. 🙂
my most memorable moment was when I was a kid…My mom and dad were hanging out on the front porch having a drink at the table…I decided to sit on the railing of the porch while talking to them….I fell back off the railing into a rose bush. All I remember is THORNS lol
We were visiting a family friend, P, with our family dog. P had a fish pond with lily pads and the dog thought he could walk on the lily pads. Our dog was not a good swimmer and went nuts when the lily pad didn’t suport him! The most memorable part was not that it happened, but that about 10 min later the dog did it AGAIN! 15 years later and we’re still laughing about it 🙂
My most memorable patio experience was sitting on the patio on Maui in the Kaanapali area. Our food was delicious and we said to each other the only thing that would make this more perfect is if a whale jumped right now. Right then a whale jumped out of the water in the ocean about a football field away from us – it was amazing!
most memorable moment was a family party swimming , bbqing and a fire
My friends live by the water and he had just finished taking everything off the BBQ and placing it on plates on the patio table, we went in to bring out the extras as in the salad, bread, wine and glasses only to return to seagulls flying, fighting, landing and pooping on everything. Needless to say, we ate sandwiches indoors that day.
My most memorable patio moment was as a child when my entire extended family came over for a barbecue. There was nothing funny or outrageous about it but it was a simple pleasure to be able to spend time with family out on the patio.
My most memorable patio event was when I was suntanning as a teenager and the lounger was so comfortable I fell asleep with my sunglasses on. Not only did I have a serious racoon face I had terrible burns all over my body. I was peeling like a snake for three weeks. Even when there was a gentle breeze my peeling skin would wave in the breeze as I walked…Definitely memorable!
My most memorable summer patio memories are of spending a summer in montreal and being able to experience the buzz of the city firsthand!
I remember sneaking into one of my parent’s patio parties with my sister when we were kids. We were mingling around, sneaking food, keeping out of the eyes of my parents until my sister somehow fell into the pool! We were sent back to bed after that.
My most memorable deck moment is sitting under the awning toasting marshmallows with my son in a thunder storm. Magical!
My memorable moment was the summer we celebrated our marriage. We were married in April and had a very small invite. In August, we had more family and friends over to celebrate. It was really nice and my husband built a new deck and it is very beautiful. We have very happy memories of everything spending time together on our new deck, celebrating our new life.
Nothing extravagant; Just enjoying the morning air and having coffee with my Mom.
My most memorable would have to be our first house and my hubbie and a neighbor were putting in our patio and I made so much food it turned into a great neighbor hood party. The patio was finished a week later but I didn’t make it a party because I wanted it finished and it was well worth the wait.
Our patio was not only our entertainment space, but we move our computers out there in the summer and do our work outside. We love it. It is a very multi-fuctional space that we enjoy as long as we can.
The last time I was on a patio would have been my grandma’s birthday. All the kids/teenagers/young adults were outside, all the mom’s/dad’s/grandma’s were inside. It was so sunny out & there was 1 umbrella on the table blocking the sun, there were about 8 of us out there trying to cram into this little corner avoiding the sun, because we didn’t want sun burn or the sun in our eyes. Everyone inside found it quite funny because we were all arguing trying to get comfortable. It was great !
My most memorable patio experience is when my daughter, who was 2, decided to have a teddy bear picnic. I had washed her little plastic table and chairs and set them up on the deck for a snack, and she decided to dress up in her best dress, set the table for all her teddies and then set them all up for a picnic.
I posted the picture on Facebook and all my friends asked why they weren’t invited too! We ended up having a teddy bear picnic for her birthday that year because it was so much fun, complete with a bean bear toss and “going on a bear hunt” to find the goody bags!
My best patio memory was on my Honeymoon in Negril, Jamaica. My Husband and I got to enjoy the most beautiful private candlelit dinner on the beach patio. I will never forget that night with the waves crashing on the beach and complete darkness except for the tiki torches in the sand.
My most memorable patio moment in recent memory was watching the pastel sunset from our beachfront deck in Negril, Jamaica…pina colada in hand:)
I got my first kiss from my hubby on a friends patio at a baseball team bbq. now 9yrs & going strong !
When we moved into our current house 10 years ago, we purchased some new furniture for our deck. My husband put diligently put together the chairs we had ordered and they looked very nice – except when we went to stack them, we realized he had placed the bolts on the wrong side, and therefore, were unable to stack them! After 10 years and 2 kids later, we are in need of some updated furniture – this would fit the bill!
I looked out onto our deck one morning and thought that it looked odd. I called my husband over and asked what was going on. It turns out our deck had rotted out on the bottom on one side and the whole deck was tilted sideways. It was hilarious to look at but very was unsafe so we promptly took it all down. My husband has since rebuilt the deck and we enjoy sitting out on in it summer.
my favorite and funny patio moment was about 15 years ago. We had just finished redoing the back yard when I had to go to Walmart. Must to my surprise they had patio sets in sale, well I just had to have one but with only a small car how was I to get it all home. I unpacked all the boxes piled what i could in my little car. Ask the store to hold the rest until I dropped off the first load then return for the rest of the pieces. After an hour I returned to Walmart for the rest by this time the store was closing and I was left in the dark parking lot alone, while piled the rest in my car. It’s now 11pm on a Friday night but I wasn’t leaving until I got every piece in my car. I was proud as a peacock that I got this 9 piece set for, are you ready for the price 129.99. Up it was in sale and it was a sale I could pass up not even in the thunderstorm that was pour down in me while I was loading and unloading my little car. That set is now 15 years old and boy can you tell. It’s all rusted now. 2 chairs are broken and the umbrella no longer works. But it’s a memory I will always love to tell every time someone ask how old it the rust bucket and what did in pay for it. So you see it’s been fifteen years I think it’s time for a new set.
My most memorable moment was when we finished our new deck last year and all the plants were in and we we went to sit down, but no furniture! Thank goodness there was a yard sale the next day and we snagged some sturdy plastic chairs. I would love this furniture on our new deck – stunning!
Memorable, but not good: my dog eating my patio set 🙁
My most memorable moment was: When we first brought out the patio furniture and setting up the stuff after the winter, and revealing the pretty much 7-8 month hibernation of the hot tub and the first thing are crazy dog does in jump in the dead leaves and dirty water… oh boyz..
Ok my funniest patio experience was when mine fell down! It was during an ice storm and there was literally ice covering everything, well my parents never gave the deck much thought with the snow and ice on it. I was in the basment watching tv when i heard this big crash, thud, bang! I went to look out my basement back window to see what happened but i couldnt see anything, so i went upstairs to go out on my deck and there was no deck to walk out on lol it was laying on an angle across the back of my house. i never laughed so hard in my life although my parents werent so happy lmao.
My best story was from my 10th birthday party, i’ll never forget as my grandpa was video taping us playing games and was trying to walk around the back of the crowd by the edge of the pool, but he was so intent on carrying his old BETA video recorder he lost balance and fell in the pool! He threw the video recorder at our guests in effort to save it from taking a plunge in the pool too! it hit our neighbor the entire thing was filmed somewhat lol I hope I win! still live in the same place with the same pool that seriously needs some new patio furniture!!
My most exciting moment was just over a year ago when I was at a friends house for a BBQ, and I announced to all of my close friends that I was expecting my first child. The screams of excitement were overwhelming!
MY BEST EXPERIENCE AND MEMORY IS WHEN I GO SEE MY DAD and we always sat out there had a cold drink and laughed our headds off
My most memorable moment was when I pulled up into my driveway and thought my patio table was missing. It ends up that I forgot to put the umbrella down and due to the wind that day it blew the table over and it smashed to smitherines… I am still finding glass on my deck this year!
My most memorable patio moment was several years ago when we went to lunch with our son to celebrate his graduation. It was a wonderful time.
I remember when I was 18 years old, I was dating a guy (Rob L) and we decided we would have a bbq for dinner. So we got everything ready inside and then we came out to start up the bbq. Rob had turned on the bbq without lifting the lid. So when it came to lifting the lid. Phoof..it just came up in his face and his eyebrows were gone..
It made me more careful with future bbqing.. <3 😉
My brother and his wife had a pool so of course we all our parties there! All the birthdays and parties were memorable because of a great pool party!
Best patio moment was our first BBQ dinner with friends and family when we bought our first house. Everybody was there, the weather was nice, it was great!
We had a deck when we first bought our home 8 yrs ago & ripped it down a couple months after we moved in. Was so high we could see into everyone else’s backyard. The only memory we have of that deck was the one & only bbq we had with friends/family. Lots of food, music & fireworks too. The fireworks were the talk of the night. Friend in charge of fireworks got burnt & another got something in his eye- thought he got a piece of the hot firework in it. Almost took a trip to the hospital. Despite all that hishap everyone had a good time. Since then we have not had another deck or patio.
My most memorable memory was only weeks ago when I got to see relatives that I hadn’t seen in years at my aunts house on her beautiful patio. With beautiful warm weather, solar lights and warm memories, we all truly had a wonderful experience and a much needed family reunion!
I remember my mom stretched out on a chaise longue soaking up the rays on our patio, when I was a kid. It was early March and the snow banks around the patio were at least 3 feet high, but that couldn’t stop a serious sun worshiper!
When I was growing up, my mom had the most beautiful backyard. The perfect mix of sun and shade, lots of room to run around, and two big, beautiful elm trees. Right after school had let out for the year, I remember sitting down to dinner (as we often did in the summertime) out on the patio, mom had cooked an amazing bbq dinner and we were all very excited. Mom and Dad were drinking wine to celebrate, and myself and younger brother had the promise of bbq banana boats on our tongues. Just as we were about to dig in, there was a loud crack of thunder and it began to POUR rain. We had the umbrella up, and mom had worked so hard she was determined to stay outside and enjoy our dinner together. It wasn’t so bad, until the wind picked up and the hail started. The wind was so strong it tore our umbrella away, and there we sat, getting pummelled by hail. We grabbed what we could and ran inside. We watched our dinner be destroyed. After a good laugh we piled into our truck and ended up going through the drive thru (which my brother was quite happy about!) instead.
The last time I was on a patio was at a hot dog place. I went to sit down and my then-5 year old son announced way too loudly “Mommy your underwear is showing!” Thanks kid! lol
Before my hubby and I met and got married a friend gave me an old lounger.I was sitting on it and he sat down to introduce himself and bam the chair broke. It was right in the middle of a party and I was so embarassed, I almost ran into the house. Instead I laughed it off and said it was an old chair, but my brother yells out Oh sure just admit you gained some weight.Boy did my face go red!!
Our patio set ended up at the bottom of our lake, never to be found again.
We live by the lake and a storm came up unexpected, and before we could grab them and run for safety….they were gone!!
IT WASN’T MUCH OF A PATIO OR DECK BUT IT SURE WAS A LONG TIME AGO AND I STILL REMEMBER THE STARS AND THE FIREFLIES…
I am tired of spray painting my patio furniture every year. Maybe this year will be the year that I won`t have to trim my hair of off spray.
My favourite deck moment was 8 years ago when just after my wife and purchased our house, we ate as husband and wife for the first time on our own deck. I will never forget it. It was a beautiful evening and we had BBQ and wine.
I was at a patio party and my name was picked to see Nickelback in GrandForks/I LOVE patio parties!!
We had a BBQ the last time I was on a patio.
At a surprise baby shower thrown for myself by a parent in my son’s kindergarten class, one of the Mom’s started screaming for help. One of the boys had gotten too close to the slope from the shallow to deep end and clearly didn’t know how to swim. I quickly jumped in at the same time as another parent and we scooped him out – safe & sound. When I got out of the pool I was happy that my 7 month pregnant self wasn’t wearing white! The best part… I somehow had time to put down my plate of food and push my husband out of the way in order to jump in!
It was dark out and my husband thought he heard the cat at the patio door. When he opened the door he was shocked to see about 10 racoons having a party on the patio. I think they were as shocked as he was!
A funny moment that happened to me on the patio, i was at my in laws a few summers ago and i was my birthday i was relaxing on there patio chair and it broke and i fell right through it lol i would really love to win i am just getting my first house and would love to have patio furniture for my back yard to have this summer for my baby’s first birthday
My most memorable was the first patio my husband and I had as a married couple. We moved into a freshly renovated apartment with hardwood floors and patios off our living room and our bedroom and really thought we had made it! We went out and bought a tiny little bistro set and started growing a patio garden. Now, we’re in our first house and we still have that tiny bistro set on our giant deck — a reminder of where we started!
Love your patio furniture…hope I win the $500.00
I’ll never forget when I walked into a screen door while trying to get onto a patio at a family party. The next morning I woke up with a nasty cut and bruise between my eyes. Classic!
My most memorable patio moment was when my daughter was having her 10th birthday party on our patio……….all the girls were having an amazing time, and then my daughter dumped the pizza that she had made all over one of her friends. That was about 20 years ago, and the dumpee has never forgotten it.
3 weeks ago we had a very windy day, my son & I were standing near the back of our yard when a gust of wind caught our patio umbrella and pulled the base of our glass table. I had just potted a bunch of plants, so I had to pick trough the shards of glass to save the plants. So much glass…I am still finding pieces. We are currently using our old Coleman camping table. It is not very pretty.
My most memorable patio moment was several summers ago when a car lost control, jumped the curb and took out our beautiful Japanese Maple tree, a cement flower urn and several bushes and ended up wedge between my house and my patio deck! The car was wedged in so tightly that looking over the railing I couldn’t see it! Thank goodness our patio deck is raised and very strong or we would have lost the entire deck. Talk about a hair-raising experience! LOL
My favourite patio memories are actually camp deck memories. Every summer since I was 2 years old we’ve had camp fires and barbecues, family gatherings and birthday parties out at camp. The most memorable were always our traditional Labour Day corn roasts. Sometimes they were small, sometimes a ton of family showed up. It was always so great to have these fun family gatherings. There were no shortage of laughs, and no shortage of food! One of my fondest memories of these events is of my grandmother and her singing! She would start singing and suddenly we’d all start! They were never usually ‘normal’ songs…they were always Irish diddies, other rhymes, or satircal songs. My grandmother passes away 9 years ago this July, and family gatherings at camp have never been the same. I cherish the memories we had on that old deck at camp, and still feel the urge to break into song when we have a camp fire!
Once upon at time, whilst enjoying some festive summer libations at a friends most excellent house party, we were tossing marshmallows off the second story balcony to our very “Chris Farley-esque” friend down below. We were all in stitches watching our robust maniac buddy jump, roll and dive ever so dramatically in attempts to catch these little white puffs of deliciousness in his mouth by the light of the moon – he did surprising well only missing a few. Once the bag was empty and the marshmallow barrage had subsided, he continued to gobble up the remaining tasty treats that fallen on the ground around him…thinking that the show had ended the rest of us carried on with our idle chit chat until we heard a shriek of pure horror as our favourite marshmallow muncher realized that he had mistakenly bitten into a petrified white dog turd.
I once fell through a deck I was helping to build when I forgot there were no deck boards behind in yet, when I backed up.
My most memorable patio moment is when I was at my aunt and uncles one time. I left their screen door open, went to the back of the house and starting running intending to go through the open door, onto the deck and jump in the pool about three feet away from the door. In the meantime someone closed the screen, which I didn’t notice until I ran right through it. I barely even noticed as I went through.
It was a family reunion and we were sitting in the backyard at the patio table when the hailstorm and heavy rain started. We all pulled our chairs close together and under the umbrella and were able to keep dry. No one could leave without getting soaked so we sat, told stories and laughed until the storm passed. It was the best time of the whole reunion!
I had just arrived from Halifax with two boxes of fresh live lobsters and was hosting a large group for dinner. I was holding up one of the lobsters by the tail for a picture when it snapped for me. I dropped it and it made a dash to our pond. The fresh water would have killed it. Ironically, I dropped it into some salt water (boiling in a pot on the deck). It died anyway. Delicious.
my most memorable moment was when i was a kid, and i played water guns with my sister in my grandma’s backyard
My most memorable patio experience was a few years ago. We went over to the in-laws for a Mother’s Day bbq. Everyone was on the deck with their drinks in hand, chatting, laughing and having a great time enjoying the beautiful spring day. All of a sudden, events took a decided turn for the worse as the unmistakeable smell of skunk suddenly wafted through the air. Then people began to scream and laugh as the skunks under the deck decided they didn’t like all the noise and resolved to make the human interlopers evacuate the premises. In a flash we abandoned the deck to the skunks (women and children first!!) and retired to the gazebo, located a safe distance away. It’s been ages since I’ve laughed that hard!!
My most memorable patio moment was a few months ago while celebrating my dads birthday we started a water fight!!! 🙂 It was awesome. 😀

My most memorable patio story is back when I was around 12 years old. My Uncle had finished building our outdoor patio area and we had a big party with family over. We had a pool and there were tons of cousins over. My mom was always one to look her best so she was dressed up for this party. I had come out of the pool and was sitting on the patio when all of the sudden my mother went running off the patio and jumped right into the pool.
We had no clue what she was doing but she came up and pulled my cousin out of the pool. He had gone under and no one but my mom noticed him pretty much drowning. To this day my cousin remembers the time my mom saved him.
My most memorable patio experience is where my daughters 13 and 14 built an outdoor chaise with pallets that they then put single mattresses on it and made cushions with fabric and stuffing around our house. It is beautiful and comfortable, but could really use some patio furniture friends.
A memorable experience on the patio would be after the church rehearsal in preparation for my brother’s wedding. Everyone came by and had dinner in the backyard and we did our best to accommodate everyone. If I win this furniture, I’ll have some patio furniture to call my own.
My most memorable deck experience is my 25th Birthday party – spent dancing in the dark, on my deck, to “Dancing in the Dark” (my favourite song) with my family and friends.
My most memorable patio experience was the pig roast we threw for my Mom’s 50th birthday
On this past April 27th, it was the first beautiful day of the year.. I spent it outside in my yard, on the rusted, aged patio set that came with the new house. My now 9 month old sat on the grass for the first time, pulling it out and feeling it in between his fingers. My 4 year old made friends with the boy who lives next door and they ran back and forth between the 2 yards playing all day. The dog dug a huge, muddy hole, which the boys played in while I wasn’t looking and got covered in mud up to their knees… I kept thinking that’s the stuff childhoods are made of 🙂 My then boyfriend ended the perfect day perfectly by asking if I would marry him, when the sun started to go down :)He had some big, elaborate plan of asking me in front of all our friends and family but I guess he saw how much I was enjoying the simple day, in our own backyard, being us… and decided it was perfect.
My most memorable patio moment was getting a new cedar deck and hot tub installed. We had so many great social experiences – unfortunately we moved and now my patio is lacking. 🙁
my most memorable patio story is when I came home from the Navy in 1995 and I sat around and old table on my mothers patio and got aquainted with my mothers new husband and just when we went to get up and go inside my mothers new husband fell through his old cloth lawn chair and on his but. This was a good ice breaker and we were all able to laugh for years after that, thinking about the way Ted and I first met.
After he passed in 2011 our family still sits around on the same patio for BBQ’s and we still remember the time Ted fell through the chair and said, “I think its about time we get rid of this old patio set”
My most memorable experience with our patio was the building of the patio itself. Invited some friends over to help, the weather was to be good and had the supplies delivered that morning which the truck couldn’t back deep into our driveway due to the awning we have over the side door so they had to drop everything at the end of the driveway so we had to carry and cart the various and much limestone, dirt & patio slabs to the far end of the backyard. Then as we started, it quickly turned dark which we decided to continue even if it rained. Well, it poured huge and we were all soaked and the patio area was a mud pit but we continued on. Then one of the guys cut the buried phone line which ran up the middle of our yard it turned out which we then had to send my wife to get a splicing kit. Long story short, we got the patio area built but with memories and laughs we won’t forget.
many years ago , when I first moved into my house , we had a housewarming party . The deck was a bit ratty , and a rather heavy set lady actually fell through the deck . a board broke under her weight and she was stuck in the deck up to her thigh . It took us a while to stop laughing before we got together and “rescued ” her . she took it all very well , and came out without a scratch . obviously deck repairs were moved to the top of the job jar .
One of my most memorable moments was a few years ago when I invited several friends over for a cookout. One of the guests had a little too much to drink and literally passed out. So embarrassing
Mine is child sized 🙂 my husband cut the legs off on an old picnic table and affixed a golf umbrella to the center of the table for our kids to have a set many years ago, now I feel like I am sitting on the ground when we eat outside.
Ha! Our funniest patio story was when we had a lovely grape arbour over our picnic table. As we were eating our burgers, a morning dove insisted on flying into our eating area. We thought it was odd and eventually she just landed on top of us in the grape vines. Quiet for a moment ….and then an egg came through the bower. It landed softly in the potato salad. I suppose we were too close to the nursery? Smile
My most memorable patio moment is I was eating something. I went to put a spoon up to my mouth and a bird pooped on it….Isn’t that supposed to be lucky?????
i had few of buddies over for some beers and bbq.
after few beers, we decided to bring out flat screen tv and ps3
to the patio to play video game.
at the time, we did not have no fences and was getting dark out.
every people walking by my house( living in the corner house)
heard us and looked over saying nice set up. lol.
then it stared to raining out of nowhere we had to bring all the
electronic back in the house. that was one of good memories i
had in the back yard
Relaxed and slept
I love hanging out with friends and family with wine/beers and food on a patio!
my husband was trying to start a fire and grabbed one of the children’s chairs to use as a fan and my 3 year old found it hilarious and started walking around (for days!) miming that motion!
Our family enjoys our patio with regular family BBQ’s and get togethers almost every weekend.
Last summer I went out on my deck to sit on one of our chairs. I am handicapped, and it was not steady enough to hold my weight, and I went down with the chair. Probably funny for everyone but me.
Last summer my niece and her new husband dropped by – unexpectedly. I had just picked cherries and eating fresh cherrie was something he hadn’t tried before – but we all enjoyed them and our visit very much.
I love sitting on the deck with my husband late at nite with a beer or a glas of wine with candles lit & our mini patio lights twinkling.
I would like to have our seniors coffee group for a BBQ this year but would need new furniture as last time someone leaned on my table and broke a leg and one of the ladies went through the wicker chair not a pretty sight but pretty darn funny.
most memorable patio experience was fighting for our bbq with pesistant wasps
The funniest moment on a patio that I remember was when I went away for a girls weekend at the beach. None of us knew how to light the BBQ for dinner, even though one of the girls claimed she did. We were all sitting on the patio enjoying a drink when all of a sudden a giant fireball exploded from the BBQ into the air. Nobody got hurt, but my friends arm hair was singed off and we all had a good laugh.
My most memorable moment was at my sister in law’s deck when we were invited to dinner and my nephew had a friend visiting who happened to be a chef and he prepared one of the better meals I’ ve had served to us on my sister in law’s new patio set.
I live in rainy Vancouver, so it’s not often we have a good stretch of warm weather. We’ve been very fortunate this past month though, enjoying 25 degree days without a cloud in sight. And even though I have to work inside during these gorgeous days, i’m always looking forward to the nights. This is when all the customers have cleared out and my co-workers and myself can enjoy the whole patio to ourselves. These are the moments that i laugh the loudest and let myself enjoy a second glass of Sangria.
The day we took possession of our first house we went and bought patio furniture before we did anything else. The store loaded the boxes into the back of our pickup and when we got home we realized two chairs were missing. About a half hour later we found the mangled cardboard boxes by the side of he highway but no chairs – we hoped the chairs didn’t do any damage and figured that whoever had to deal with them landing in front of them on the highway deserved to keep them!
60 family members on the deck. Amazing gathering.
Last summer I decided to spruce up my patio set and paint my chairs white.
I remember it was a Sunday morning as my mother was off at church. She came home while I was showering. She made iced tea and decided to read the church newsletter outside while testing out my “new chairs”. When I came outside to join her I looked with horror as her red dress had lovely white stripes on the back courtesy of my “new patio chairs”.
Nice summer day outside so we decide to chill on our patio have some drinks and we invited my aunt and cousin (8 years old) over for dinner. While were having some drinks at the table the kids and my cousin are playing on a blanket laid out on the deck beside us. When instantly my cousin stands up in a hurry and freezes. Frustrated look on his face remains… stiff legs. Not moving a tad. About 4 seconds later before we could gather enough information to ask what was wrong. A big poo came falling from the hole in in shorts… now relaxed body and red faced my cousin stood there.. :s
This simple gift from my mother has been an amazing source of strength to me. Our dad passed away when I was 12 and my brother was 14. Mom had raised us by herself and was an avid bbq’er. We spent almost every summer on the patio hanging out, taking in the sun and bbq-ing. As teenagers, my brother and I often gave our mom a bit of a hard time. She held her own during our good-natured rebelling period, but I often accused her of “keeping us tied to her apron strings.” I think I broke Mom’s heart when I took a teaching job and moved 2000 miles away shortly after graduation. It wasn’t until hours after I had said goodbye to Mom at the airport that I found the envelope she had put in my duffle bag. I read her letter of love and support, fighting back tears. But it was the remaining contents of the envelope that told me how much she loved me: folded inside were the ties snipped from her favourite yellow apron! I will always remember our patio days of summer!
We were all out on the deck and my 3 year old niece says look Auntie there’s a bird not moving on the ground. And I said aww the poor bird is probably dead. And then she says or maybe it just needs new batteries! Cutest story ever, made us all laugh for a long time!! We still laugh about it when we talk about it. Kids sure do say the cutest things
Spending quality time with family and friends in the summer. My two year old daughter loves staying u at night with me counting stars in the backyard. Our family loves spending time outdoors.
most memorable moment was at my niceces bday party. we played a trick on her by making a fake cake that would blow up when she cut it. it never worked and we all had a good laugh
After a snowy cold winter in my new house, come the spring my back deck had more waves than the ocean! I couldn’t afford the expensive contractor bill to repair – my neighbours offered to help me re-level the deck in exchange for a BBQ party. Four strapping gentlemen fixed my deck – and half the neighbourhood enjoyed the evening on my back deck! I provided the ribs and a couple cases of beer – salads, treats and more were brought as a potluck! A great time was had by all!
When we had a house years ago, there was this large patio/sundeck. One year we put one of those green frog kiddie pools there full of water towards far corner of the deck. The kids used it a bit a first but got bored with it and started going to the parks swimming pool instead leaving it abandoned. A while later there was all this noise out on the deck. We went to check and found that all the local birds decided that the little pool made a great bird bath. It was a great attraction to see all these birds ranging from crows, starlings, stellar jays & more all playing in the water at different times of the day. We kept it set up all summer for them till we moved.
I did not own a BBQ for many years. Instead, I bought a Hibachi and used that on my patio. I would often let friends use my cottage, they were told there was no BBQ. It seemed that every one of them bought a Hibachi on route to the cottage, after awhile there were several. One memorable party weekend I set them all up on the paitio and we cooked dinner for a dozen people on 6 Hibachis!
The funniest patio story I can think of occurred last fall/winter. We had 2 old chairs with removable cushions that we were going to throw out and I guess one was worse than I thought because the squirrels took about half the stuffing from the top part to build their nests! It was funny to see them attacking the cushion!
