How to Arrange Outdoor Furniture
Having an outdoor space is great, but you’ll enjoy it much more if it has a nice layout. Buying furniture is the first step, and you could just put it anywhere on the deck but if you really want your outdoor space to make a statement with your friends and family then you need to really think about how you arrange the furniture and make sure it’s arranged in a way that will complement your space.
At Velago we provide dimensions and measurements on all of our products, so you’ll be sure of how your new furniture fits into your outdoor space. Here’s how to arrange your outdoor furniture to make it look like your backyard belongs in a magazine.
Choose a focal point
Whether it’s a fireplace or a garden or some other feature, select a focal point around which to arrange your space. If you don’t have an obvious focal point in your backyard, then you can design you space based on the view – so if part of your yard faces into the sunset you may want to face the furniture away from it so the sun isn’t blinding into the eyes of your guests.
Measure the space you have
If you haven’t purchased furniture for your space then it will be best to measure it first. It’s really difficult to imagine how furniture will look in your space when it’s sitting on display in a store or you’re viewing photographs online. Figure out realistically how much space you actually have and what will look to be the right size in your space.
Figure out how you will use your space
If you plan to have space allocated to activities for the kids, or if you are going to use your entire backyard for entertaining then take that into account. This is especially important if your outdoor space isn’t large.
Place the biggest piece first
It’s easiest to place the biggest piece first and then add the coordinating pieces as you see fit. You may find that by doing it this way you don’t need as many pieces as you thought, or you might end up arranging them in a different way than originally imagined.
Add accent pieces
Your outdoor space is an extension of your indoor one, so treat it that way. Add accent pieces like end tables so your guests can put their drinks or plates on them. You can also add throw pillows or blankets to make the space feel even cozier for you and your friends and family.
Add some lighting
An outdoor light attached to the house isn’t the best for using your outdoor space after dark. Take the time to invest in some lighting for your backyard so that you can host parties into the night and allow guests to see your space in a flattering light.
Your outdoor space can be arranged any number of ways, and it is ultimately up to you how you want to set up your space. The furniture you purchase will be based on your unique design taste and what your lifestyle is like. Also keep in mind that a set up will always look perfect in a magazine or on display but that doesn’t mean it will work for your space, so make sure to do some research before hand and don’t be afraid to take some time to think about it to make sure it’s the right option for you.
