Here is a quick video on how to repair wicker patio furniture, in case of a torn strand of synthetic rattan. You may have taken your furniture out of storage in spring, and a rodent has chewed through a few wicker strands. Or the furniture might have been damaged while moving it and you face the same issue.
First of all, no need for panic. The wicker on your furniture is not just going to unravel like an old wool sweater. The weave is usually quite rigid and will hardly move, even if it is ripped. The problem remains, you have loose ends sticking out and that doesn’t exactly look very appealing.
The initial step is to get some spare wicker from your retailer or manufacturer. Velago keeps strands of all its models in stock for up to 5 years, so a call or email will do. Take the strand to the location of the damage and make sure it is long enough to cover the area. In case of a simple rip, this should not be hard. All you will want to do, is cover a few lateral strands in each direction. You will simply weave the new part over top of the torn wicker.
Once this is done, cut off the excess wicker on one side. Make sure you hide the end of the new strand under the closest lateral weave. Once you figured out where the end is going, you ca glue it to the old piece using 2 component or an outdoor suitable glue. You can also use staples, if the weave is wide enough. Proceed the same way with the other and. As soon as the glue has hardened, take scissors and cut off the not needed wicker on the old strand. Again, you may want to cut it at a spot where it is covered by a lateral strand, so the end is perfectly hidden.
