How To: Make Your Backyard a Space for Your Family

Family Friendly Backyard

The ability to use your outdoor space as a family is important to you, and you want to be able to spend time outside when the weather gets nice but what if the set up of your backyard isn’t exactly family friendly?

You might already have furniture outside where adults can sit and socialize but that doesn’t mean your kids will enjoy that as much as you do. There are easy ways to turn the space you already do have into an area that you and your children will enjoy as a family.

Chalkboard Walls

If your space is fenced in, why not put that fence to good use? You can cover over portions of your fence so they are level and paint them with chalkboard paint. This way you will also avoid having your kids drawing all over the driveway in chalk, and they can keep it contained in the backyard.

Camp in the Backyard

Kids love the idea of camping out, but maybe you can’t go camping every single weekend so why not set up an area where your kids can camp in their own back yard. You can set up tents and perhaps even a fire pit in that area where they can roast marshmallows or cook their own hotdogs. What’s more is that these tents can be used during the day for kids to read or play in.

Install a Swing

If you have a large tree in your backyard what could possibly be more fun than having a tire swing to enjoy? There are very few things that spell out summer memories quite like tire swings with friends and family, so this is a really great way to give your children a fun addition to your backyard. Swings aren’t just for kids though, check out our new Outdoor Patio Swings that allow you to enjoy your outdoor living space to the most. Our outdoor swings are available in a variety of styles and colours and help make your deck or patio a cozy space where you will want to spend more time with friends and family.

Make it Like the Beach

Almost all kids love playing in the sand at the beach by building sand castles and digging holes. Another easy and simple way to make your backyard family friendly then is to put in a large sandbox. You can do this by building your own frame and putting sand into it. You can also make it accessible all the time by putting a gazebo or shade covering over it so that your children can play in it at all times. This cover will also provide some protection from rain so that the sandbox doesn’t completely turn to mud.

Build a Tree House

A tree house is a classic childhood thing and it’s a great way for you to build something with your children. By putting in a tree house you are spending time with your children and it’s something your kids will enjoy for years to come. What’s more is that your children could spend time camping out in the tree house once it’s completed if your space allows for it.

There are small ways to make your backyard much more family friendly, and by making these changes your children and perhaps their friends will also really enjoy spending time outside. As an added benefit your kids will be spending more time outside during the summer than indoors watching screens, and if their friends are coming over you will have the ability to use the adult portion of your outdoor space to socialize with your friends. The biggest benefit to doing these things is that you can have space for your kids to enjoy the backyard while not feeling as though your entire outdoor space is consumed by children’s things.
