It might seem kind of odd to think there are trends in outdoor furniture, but why wouldn’t there be? When you’re inviting people over to your house for summer festivities do you want to be using old and worn out furniture or do you want your guests to get comfy, relax and really admire the outdoor space you have? Exactly. So, here are some ways to make sure your future is exactly what summer 2018 is calling for.
Mix it up
For many years it has been common to see the use of only a single material, such as wicker, in outdoor furniture but that is changing. You can expect this year, instead, to see pieces that use a variety of materials – including wood and metal. The finished look will give contrast but also give a sharp and clean look to your furniture.
Colour, Colour, Colour
You might think of white cushions and big fluffy throw pillows when you think about outdoor furniture but part of that is changing as well. This year, pops of colour are showing up in patio sets everywhere. And this isn’t just some muted blues or pastel greens either. These are pops of bright oranges, yellows and reds. Make your patio furniture stand out, and memorable, with very colourful cushions and pillows.
Fans Galore
What? If you have a gazebo, overhead cover or covered porch you might want to think about adding a ceiling fan. If you have power running outside your house this is a great idea to your outdoor space. When you have a covered area the air sometimes doesn’t circulate as well, so the fan in the case has two purposes: add a fun, cool look to your space and keep the area cool and cozy during those hot summer days.
Big Pieces
Depending on the space you have, this might not be feasible but large tables are a big hit this year. These big pieces create space for many people to enjoy meals and socializing outdoors. It also ensures you have enough space for people when they come over instead of guessing. You could use these large tables as statement, or focal, pieces to your outdoor space as well.
Side Tables
You have end tables in your living room for drinks right? Why not put these outside with your patio furniture? If you spend a lot of time outside these could be very useful for books, phones, drinks and whatever else you can think of to make your outdoor space truly yours. You can also use this opportunity to get a little creative and make these a statement piece to your outdoor space.
Swings
Porch swings are almost always a great thing to have – especially to curl up with a good book and waste the day away but do they have to be solely for a porch? If you have the stability in a covered deck, why not put one out there? There are so many styles to choose from you’ll definitely find one that suits your taste and style, and gives maximum comfort for those lazy summer days.
