Working from home definitely has its benefits: a shorter (or rather non-existent) commute, a more comfortable wardrobe and perhaps an incredibly flexible schedule where you can select your own hours. Even though there are benefits to working from home you might miss the small things you did when you were at the office, like maybe taking a walk on your lunch when the weather turned nice or enjoying a working lunch on a patio and soaking up some sun. Just because you are working from home it doesn’t mean you have to still be stuck in your office all day, watching the nice weather pass you by. When you work from your home you have a luxury to design your office space, so when the nice weather comes along why not take your office outside and enjoy the beautiful weather while being productive? If you’ve never taken your office outdoors, here’s how you can accomplish this.
Check the Wifi
Your home is equipped with wireless internet likely so you can successfully work from home, but does it extend outside? Most signals will be accessible from your backyard deck or patio, but you’ll want to check it just to make sure. Take your laptop, or other electronics needed to do your job, outside and make sure they can pick up your home’s signal without any issue.
Buy, or Build, Your Desk
A lot of outdoor spaces weren’t designed with working in mind, so it’s important to make sure you have something resembling a desk you can put your computer set up on. It doesn’t have to be a traditional desk by any means, but something you can easily sit at for a couple hours.
Stay in the Shade
Most laptop screens will be very difficult to read in direct sunlight, and you’ll have to bump up the contrast. This will eat away at your battery if you don’t have a space to plug in. Further, the sun beating down on your laptop could cause it to overheat. Many new laptops are being made with indoor/outdoor features but if you don’t have a new one then you’ll want to protect the one you have. Investing in some shade for your work space will make your outdoor working experience that much more enjoyable.
Get a Good Chair
When you’re sitting at a computer for hours, getting work done, you will want to make sure you have a comfortable chair to sit in. When working on your patio or deck you likely wouldn’t purchase a typical office chair, but outdoor seating has a lot of options for you to choose from. When shopping, don’t be afraid to try out all the chairs you can.
Working from your backyard space might not even feel like working, but why get stuck being inside all day when the beautiful weather is here? As long as you set up your desk properly and invest in some shade and great seating then you’ll likely not even know when 5 o’clock rolls around because you’ll be enjoying your day so much.
