Toronto – centre of hot rods and outdoor furniture! It’s a sunny Saturday afternoon in August. This summer, Velago Patio Furniture is taking part in Toronto’s Street Classics Cruise. The SCC is a car show of the extra ordinary. Around 1000 participants show every weekend from May to September. They gather on the huge parking lot at 1608 The Queensway, Toronto, near highway 427.
You can find the wildest hot rods here, cars that are tuned up to the extreme. But there are also the classic beauties. About 150 – 400 cars are here to be admired every Saturday between 5 – 9pm.
The Street Classics Show is an institution in Toronto. George & Bonnie Farrugia have been running it for 14 years now. She is here in her white 1968 Thunderbird and not only proud of her vehicle, but also of having accomplished to put together the show for so many years now. “It’s great to look back on all these years, the beautiful cars, and the wonderful people we have met. Some of them have become our dear friends.”
Main sponsor of the show is the local Canadian Tire store. They provide the space for the event. Velago Patio Furniture is thrilled to be part of this years SCC. “We raffle off gift certificates, that people can use on outdoor furniture, like this wicker sofa set, a canopy daybed or a patio dining set” says Julie. The proceeds go towards the Darling Home for Kids, an association that the show has been supporting for years. A 50/50 draw and a raffle for car products help to contribute further funds for donation to the home.
A special thanks goes out to the volunteers, in particular to Rena & Mike, for helping to make the event a huge success every time. Keep on rolling and I am sure there will be a little celebration, when they head into # 15 next year.
