I go out on my patio with my computer, it is so nice out there on a summer’s day under the trees, you can see the kids playing and the neighbours walking their dogs, it is so peaceful.

My most memorable patio experience was a wedding we attended at a golf course. It was a beautiful evening and at one point the MC invited all the guests onto the patio where there would be a final father/daughter dance. As the music was playing suddenly there appeared the most beautiful fireworks display I’ve ever seen coming up out of the valley. It was so moving and beautiful and I felt like I was in a movie!

My husband and I just purchased our first home and we have a lovely terrace … but because we’ve never had a terrace (or any patio space), we don’t have any furniture.

We look forward to being able to create new memories on our terrace. BBQ first … then some lovely furniture.

My patio is for me time. Sure having friends and family over and sitting out back sipping some wine and catching up on good times are awesome, but everyone needs me time. I can sit on my patio and listen to the waterfall from the pond. Its time for me to unwind!

My favorite patio is in Shediac looking out at the water, it is so peaceful and rejuvenating. I just have a Fifth Wheel trailer on a seasonal lot but wouldn’t give up my lot. Our winters are so long in the Maritimes and many places have mosquitoes in the warm weather – that’s what I like about Shediac the salt water seems to keep the bugs away. I would love to win some new patio furniture to use in Shediac.

I was on a Patio in Montreal,Quebec sipping a cocktail when all of a sudden
my chair moved about 5 inches and I went flying into the pool. I swam out like a fish while my university friends had a good belly laught, well so did I once I got out. This moment makes a memorable event that I will remember, and my friends too. LOL

One funny thing happened to my husband when we were having a get together with our friends on the patio was when a Canada goose dropped a “surprise” on my husband’s arm when he was barbecuing. All of a sudden, he felt something wet and dripping and thought that someone was squirting a water gun at him, but he looked up and he saw a gaggle of geese flying above. We all had a great laugh, except him.

My most memorable experience was my surpirse 50th birthday party. My kids organized it, very well I might add. I had no clue. There were about 50 people there, from various times of my life; such as past work colleagues, present work colleagues, school friends, best friends, family – the list goes on.

One of my closest friends took me out to dinner, telling me that my husband would probably meet us there. Well, he obviously didn’t make it. As we turned down my street, I was shocked to see so much activity at my house. I thought something horrible had happened; my heart was in my throat. But as I approached and saw all those people, I realized I was fooled big time.

But what a wonderful surprise. I was in a daze for the first few minutes as I was seeing people from my past that I hadn’t seen in ages, from work, etc. It was awesome and amazing. And that is no small feat as I am not usually surprised.

The best time on a deck we ever had was 5 years ago. We had a bunch of people from Toronto come to our house in the country and we stayed up all night to watch meteors streak across the sky. We were all bundled up in blankets on the deck chairs. It was extra special because one of our friends had cancer and died the following year. Whenever we see a meteorite we think of him and that amazing night.

I live in Northern Ontario and the winters can be pretty brutal. My family & I spend a lot of time indoors during the late fall and winter. When spring and summer finally come along, you can always find us out on the patio.

For me in particular, I spend every waking moment outside on my patio enjoying the beautiful weather and my gorgeous flower and vegetable gardens. There is something special during that time of year…a renewal and the ability to watch to trees and flowers bloom again. Frankly, I only go back inside when it’s time for bed.

After suffering complications from a previous cancer treatment and then a workplace injury, I have learned to live every day to the fullest & my favourite place in which to do so is of course my patio!

My most memorable patio experience occurred September 2007 during a major wind storm. That evening my husband went to a hockey game leaving me home with two year old and a 6 month old. As I passed through my kitchen I noticed the gazebo on my backyard patio being whipped by the wind. Each time I looked out my patio doors a little more of the gazebo had been shreaded or was missing. Being only five feet tall and having to take care of the children I wasn’t able to do much. By the end of the night the gazebo was a goner! Foolishly we bought another gazebo and put it up. After two years of replacing the metal rods and repairing the canopy, that one finally succumbed to the wind. Last weekend we built a wooden pergola. If the wind ruins the pergola I give up and will spend the summer sitting on the front steps!

I was on my backyard patio about half an hour ago, knockin’ back a Fuller’s Organic Honey Dew beer, and playing some soft toss with my border collie Sofie. We have a Mulberry Tree that grows right next to the deck, and I noticed some of the berries were getting very thick and juicy. I plucked a bunch off, and gave them to my panting dog. Mom and dad live in a suburban neighbourhood. On their patio deck they have a round table with an umbrella. One winter morning they awoke to find a fox comfortably nestled in the snow that had settled atop the table. It actually got up and walked round and round the table. They gave me a photograph of it. For me it’s a reminder of the beauty and magnificence of nature.

Well considering it was 40C with the humidity today, we (my 2 yr old and myself) spent most of the day today on our patio. I just bought him the little tykes “Makin’ Mud Pies” kitchen set yesterday, so I thought it would be a good idea to put it on the patio with a big flower pot of soil… Yeah, needless to say my patio now looks like my truck does after we go “mudding”. You can’t see the wood at all, and would you believe the tap for the outside hose snapped off today, when I tried to hose off all the mud. lol, I have a bunch of super cute pictures of my little guy making his mud pies tho, so it was all worth it.

Enjoying my patio with family and friends during the summer is always enjoyable for me. My most favorite time is in the morning when there is no-one around. I’ve got a hot cup of coffee. The sky is blue, clear and just abit crisp yet from the mountain air. The trees are magestic with just alittle flutter from the breeze. The flowers are glorious, purple, magenta, pink, blue, orange, yellow, white…but too many shades of each colour to describe. My little oasis, its all here for me. A feeling of accomplishment and serenity washes over me as my garden applauds my efforts. Now I sit in my chair and smile…just to me.

The best memory of our patio is the great feeling I had when we finished putting it in. It was a real adventure DIY experience – the patio is built from flagstones and flat rocks that we collected from local creeks and streams. We’ll never forget hauling wet stones to our car and then trying to decide on placement. But it looks great and is absolutely unique!

My most memorable patio moment was when my family went up to Tobermory to visit my god parents. They have a cottage on Dorcus Bay. We went out on my godfather’s boat during the early morning. We caught rainbow trout and brought them back with us. He smoked them all day long as our parents chatted and read book on the patio while we swam. As the sun was setting we all sat on the patio, looking out at the lake while eating freshly smoked trout. We stayed outside until the stars came out to watch a meteor shower. It was the most brilliant thing I have ever seen, especially the reflection of the stars on the warm dark waters of Dorcus Bay.

We spent the summer on the bright concrete patio, laughed a lot about it and painted it a nice safe grey color the next year.

On my older sisters graduation we had all of her friends over to our place after the ceremony for drinks and dinner on the patio. There were about 20 people and as everyone was sitting down, one of the girls jumped up screaming and then ran away as fast as she could…soon everyone else was jumping and running because apparently we hadn’t used all of the chairs yet this one summer and a very large wasp nest had decided to attach itself to the bottom of one of the patio chairs and was disturbed when someone sat down on it. after 9 guests were stung more than once, we decided it was best to eat inside.

I used to eat my lunch and dinner outside in our backyard, colouring and just enjoying the great outdoors. It was just so peaceful, beautiful greenery and scenery to see not to mention all of the little critters we get in our garden.

Now that we’ve moved into our new house, we had to throw our old patio set away which had a lot of fond childhood memories. Here’s to hopping I win this contest, win a new patio set and create new memories with my family and friends that will last a lifetime.

I was working on my motorcycle on my patio and my engine on the motorcycle and somehow, the motorcycle slipped into gear. I was still holding the handlebars, was dragged through a glass patio door and along with the motorcycle dumped onto the floor inside the house. My wife, hearing the crash, ran into the dining room, and found me laying on the floor, cut and bleeding, the motorcycle laying next to me and the patio door shattered. My wife ran to the phone and summoned an ambulance. Because we live on a fairly large hill, my wife went down the several flights of long steps to the street to direct the paramedics to me.

After the ambulance arrived and transported me to the hospital, my wife uprighted the motorcycle and pushed it outside. Seeing that gas had spilled on the floor, my wife obtained some papers towels, blotted up the gasoline, and threw the towels in the toilet. I was treated at the hospital and was released to come home.

After arriving home, I looked at the shattered patio door and the damage done to his motorcycle. I became despondent, went into the bathroom, sat on the toilet and smoked a cigarette. After finishing the cigarette, I flipped it between my legs into the toilet bowl while still seated. My wife, who was in the kitchen, heard a loud explosion and me screaming. She ran into the bathroom and found me laying on the floor. My trousers had been blown away and I was suffering burns on the buttocks, the back of my legs and his groin. My wife again ran to the phone and called for an ambulance.

The same ambulance crew was dispatched and my wife met them at the street. The paramedics loaded me on the stretcher and began carrying me to the street. While they were going down the stairs to the street accompanied by my wife, one of the paramedics asked my wife how I had burned myself. She told them and the paramedics started laughing so hard, one of them tipped the stretcher and dumped the me out. I fell down the remaining steps and broke my arm. Now THAT was a bad day…

Most memorable was the patio of the condo I live in for a year in Hawaii. My parents flew down for a month and it was a true son, parent bonding. Mom has a morbid fear of flying and it too all of her courage. We sat night after night watching the sun go down over Waikiki. This two have given up so much to support a family of 7. They didn’t even have their own bedroom! The slept on the pull out sofa in our living room..yet we always felt like they gave us everything. This was my way of saying thanks. This August, Dad now 88, Mom 86 will celebrate their 66th wedding anniversary. A new Patio set would certainly bring the party to life outdoors. Everything is just a little rusted, and tired (me included!) and the BBQ is questionable. (we may do take out!) Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad. I’ll always be your little boy. xox

As much as I love a hot summer’s day on the patio, my all-time favourite patio experience happened in January! I was at a London, ON pub called the Barking Frog, standing next to the heated turrets on a freezing and very, very snowy evening. Suddenly a snowball was lobbed from the street over the Frog’s tall wooden fence, landing just a couple feet away from me. With that, an all-out snowball fight broke out between the dozens of bar patrons on the patio. Definitely one of the most Canadian things I’ve seen! It was all in good fun and even a few bouncers joined in.

I decided I would impress my boss with my culinary skills on the barbi, so I invited he and his fiance over. They arrived to my then abode and we went into my cosy grunge meets urban gardener back yard, and back then I had old school lawn chairs with the aluminum tube with webbing over them. The bosses fiance walks over with her glass of red wine and beautiful white dress, sits down on one of the chairs and breaks right through the webbing, legs around her ears, now wearing a red dress to match her and my face. Chairs apparently had one too many a campfire setting! Needless to say it was the shortest dinner party I ever hosted.

All week the weatherman forecast rain for the weekend, so what a surprise it was to see sun on Saturday for the baby shower I was going to. When I arrived the outside patio was beautifully decorated, chairs were set up, food tables ready and even a pig whirling on a humungeous grill. All was beautiful for the mother-to-be’s arrival. Such a wonderful time was had by all. Presents opened and we were just starting to relax when the sky darkened to almost night and the wind kicked up sending things flying this is when everyone went rushing into the house with chairs, gifts, etc and in perfect timing the downpour of rain, thunder and lightening started. It was awesome. We all laughed at our luck to get inside just in time. And then it happened – the power went out. Yup. We all sat in in almost darkness laughing. As it turned out the power was out for around 2 hours but we continued to party. Then just as fast as the storm came, it left. Yes, some brave souls ventured back to the patio to continue with the partying.

My most memorable patio moment was when we were building our patio (deck). My 2 boys were in the house. At some point, my 2 year old son closed and locked the patio door and I couldn’t get him to open it. I had to get my husband to lower me down off the patio which was up around 8ft so I could run around to the front door. In the process of being lowered down, my shirt hooked on a nail and lifted right off. I was left dangling and flashing the neighbour. I was mortified at the time, but laugh about it now.

We named it after her and bought a wooden plaque with her name on it to honour her. Now every night, when we sit out there I think of her. We had a family barbecue to christen the deck on Easter and we all raised a glass and toasted the best mom ever.

I’ll never forget sitting on our patio, the night the power went out in most of Ontario that one summer about ten years ago. I was pregnant with our second child; our two-year-old was sleeping on a mattress on the main floor to stay cool. Everything was so quiet, yet you could hear the neighbours, sitting on their porches and patios carrying on quiet conversations looking at the stars. It was such a clear night, with no streetlights – we even saw a satellite fly by. It reminded me of what it must have been like before electronics took over…a whisper from yesteryear. What an awesome memory…

The Wisdom of Menopause at My Patio

The dawn of my menopause brings me many retrospections and soliloquy. My patio saves me from many troubles caused by erratic emotions which accompany menopause. My patio becomes my hiatus and “rescue space” to cool down and understand my self; and, likewise save my marital life. Being in my patio connects me to my inner self…a time to be alone…a moment of reflection…an instance of positive solitude. My patio becomes a venue of increased self-knowledge, confidence and times of pure joy by coming into terms with this wisdom of woman’s life called menopause.

My favorite patio memory is from 1995, my new husband and I had just returned from our first (and only!) trip abroad, we went to Barbados and ended up getting married down there. At that time, the wedding was included with the all-inclusive fees, and the only thing we needed to do was get a license, get dressed appropriately, and supply our own photographer. My parents weren’t too thrilled that their only daughter eloped, however, they threw us the biggest, nicest party on their big patio that faces the Beach, and it was all a surprise. My mom had blown up some of our wedding photos and had beautifully decorated the patio with them and a cake and decorations. We were blown away! Now that patio at the family beach house desperately needs some repairs and TLC, the years of living by the salty sea have caught up to it. I would love to be able to put a covered area on one side for my mom to be able to sit without catching too much of a breeze and still be able to enjoy her nice view. Cheers.

We spend many a nights on her old brick patio solving all of the problems the life threw. The patio became a comfort zone, made more inviting by the occasional glass of wine, cheezy patio lantern lights and well worn in patio chairs. It became a place to go to toss around the next step on path to a happy life.

We have a water feature in the garden and this furniture would allow me to sit in comfort and style and enjoy the sounds and smells coming from this very special garden while I reminisce about my son. Love you Branden and Miss you Forever.

Right now my patio consists of some grass, some uneven interlocking stone with weeds growing between them, some fake green turf covering bald spots on the lawn and a hideous concrete round patio table which I’m hoping will get hit by lightening and smash it into dust! My patio needs major help to make it beautiful and then I can start having wonderful memories to share!

not a good memory, more like a disaster. we hired a company to pour concrete to expand our patio area. They said it would only take 3 days. Thinking it would be done, we planned a part for 2 weeks later. Well it didn’t end up being finished until 2 weeks after the party itself. But everyone still had a good time.

The last time I was on a patio was on Canada day with some close friends after we were at Pride in Toronto. We had some beers, listened to some Tragically Hip and other Canadian bands playing over the stereo while watching the neighborhood fireworks. Nothing better than close friends, laughter & conversation, a cold beer and some patriotism!

I remember some of the best times of my life were spent outside whether it were rain or shine! It is the best time to get the whole family together and enjoy the beautiful outdoors! As of right now, my boyfriend and I would love to have the family over to enjoy the beautiful weather but we have a hard time finding patio furniture that is perfect for us! I am in love with this patio furniture and our family gatherings would be just that much better!

It was Saturday, autumn. A day and afternoon, I will never forget. It was in the days before children, hubby was off doing whatever he does. Our home was remarkably clean that day, so I puttered a little in the kitchen, and proceeded to bake pumpkin cookies. We lived in a townhome at the time, with a teeny deck off the kitchen, overlooking our miniscule yard. I took out a black folding camping chair, arranged to have a footrest, booted up my laptop, turned on my choice of light music, poured myself a drink and spent the rest of the afternoon on that wee deck, lost in self and home improvement ideas and inspiration via the internet…enjoying the changing leaves as they rustled in the fresh, but warm breeze. I can’t remember being so relaxed or carefree…

P.S. – I like on Velago Patio Furniture Facebook! 🙂

Seating on the deck, when the weather is just right melts the toughest, dysfunctional, lonely moments in my relationship be it with my spouse or my son. Here seated comfortably, in the evening air and quiet of the nearly bedded birds, the gentle warm breeze never fails to envelope us in peace.

We lived in our last home for 20 years and the house never had a deck. I vowed I would never move until the deck was built, but every year the “deck funds” would go towards the endless repairs on our 100 year old home, rather than on a deck. Instead, the flagstone patio halfway down our yard became the spot where it all happened… family feasts, barbecues and bonfires, chillaxing with Sangria and friends, and as as a stage for the fiddle players at our backyard wedding. One memorable time on the patio was on a very cold October night when we just had the urge for one last bonfire before the winter snows arrived. So with hot chocolate in hand in place of Sangria, we enjoyed one last gathering on the patio, outfitted in winter coats and wool toques… in true Canadian style.

So a couple years back we were all on the patio outside and we were playing a card game. After a couple drinks, we all were pretty wasted and things started getting really weird. I forget what type of card game we were playing, I think it was goldfish, but we turned it into a stripping game. Eventually, all five of us were nearly naked out in my open backyard. We dared each other to do a lot of stupid stuff, most of which I can’t remember. Any ways, I woke up in only my boxer shorts next to a tree in my neighbours backyard.

The most memorable experience I have on my patio happened two weeks ago. We’ve been living in our new house for only a few months and have just set up the patio table and chairs, along with my new tomato plant.

We arrived home from work, planning on making dinner and sitting outside, when the worst storm I’ve ever experienced rolled in. Hail the size of ping pong balls began to fall, bouncing off the roof of the garage, down onto the table, hitting the door and deck, making an incredible racket. We stood inside watching in disbelief as the hail piled up. When the storm was over, the deck looked like it was covered in snow.

While the deck and table survived (minus the railing paint), the same couldn’t be said for my poor tomato plant. Or our plans to eat outside.

Ok…Picture this, it’s a gorgeous hot sunny day, my friends on the patio are all sipping on a cool drink, great conversation is flowing! We are celebrating my birthday! So there I am at the helm of my new shiny barbecue set, grilling that aromatic delicious meat! Ok..so have to tell you here, that my patio set had been quite used for many years, it was quite weather beaten and worn, but I figured I could get another season out of it! I went to take a break and sat down on one of the chairs. So imagine my surprise as it went karplunk and flattened right to the deck floor and I went sprawling on my butt! I was so embarassed and so were my guests, who rushed over to help me up! To make light of the situation, I joked that hey..good thing I had a lot of padding and it did not hurt at all and laughed! My friends followed suit and the moment passed. We continued to have a great and fun barbecue nonetheless! It was good to laugh at myself and I vowed I would not only lose weight but also get a new patio set! BUT to date, I still have not due to lack of funds mostly, and now I gingerly sit on the other remaining chairs, hoping too they do not ‘spring another falling’ surprise on me!

Having lived in an apartment in a city for over a decade, moving to a house in a small town presented a new set of challenges. It was fun digging around in the dirt, designing the look and choosing plants. Later, a patio rug, outdoor furniture, and some cats… what a life! In the second summer, my sister gave me an outdoor fireplace, a box of kindling, a box of wood, some newspaper and a fireplace lighter, a 6-pack and a bag of chips for my birthday ~ and ever since you cannot blast my little family out of the yard in the summer. However, as times rolls on, the whole thing is looking a bit shabby [especially where the patio rug had a run-in with the lawnmower… 🙁 ick!] and could use an overhaul… so, thank you for the opportunity to make a little rejuvenation dream a reality!

The best times I have ever had on a patio is at my parents cottage in Parry Sound, ON. During the summer months myself, my parents, 4 other siblings, 3 spouses and 7 nieces and nephews congregate on the patio to eat all our meals on the giant picnic table, relax and chat. It is a place of unity for our family where even during our busy lives we are able to relax together and enjoy the views from the patio. The last time I was on a patio was at my parents cottage while I enjoyed the view of Georgian Bay. This patio allows everyone to escape from the stresses of life and enjoy each other’s company.

My friend and I went shopping for new patio furniture when he moved to Las Vegas during the summer two years ago. He didn’t have quite the budget for good patio furniture, so we bought some of the standard white plastic chairs and tables. We set them up on the deck by his pool and when my friend sat in the chair closest to the pool it collapsed and he fell into the pool. The reason it did not hold him is that the plastic chair had gotten soft in the heat of the sun and the legs of the chair gave way. He didn’t think it was very funny at the time but laughed about it later when we took the furniture back to the store we bought it from.

Our patio gets lots of sun so it is warm quite early in the spring. One year our son wanted to have a food fight for his birthday in March. We told him he could and prepared a bunch of food; mashed potatoes boiled eggs, spagetti, jello, etc. It was so warm the kids ran around in shorts flinging food at each other for most of an hour. After hosing them down we continued with the party. It was a smash success.

Our old place had a covered wooden balcony. Besides barbecuing, my favourite use for it was sitting out to watch the storms roll in, despite my girlfriend thinking I was crazy for doing so. Thunderstorms are wild to watch up close and there’s no better way to experience them than a nice covered balcony. I’ll never forget that one freak storm of wild lightning behind pea-sized hail piling up on the edge of the deck in late July, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia.

Some of the greatest memories were made on the patio of my childhood house. Every season had special events linked to my patio. The summer was the time for parties, whether it was birthday or family get togethers, it gave the family an excuse to be outside and decorate the patio to our hearts content . The Fall was too cold for shorts and t-shirts but the perfect place to carve the pumpkins for halloween! Winter would be the time all the family would search the patio roof for the largest icicles and them use them for stir sticks in our icy cold drinks beside the warm fire. Spring, both rain and shine was a time for something to do. When the sun finally peaked through the rain clouds, my mom would try to wind dry the laundry on the patio which always smelled wonderful; but when it rained the kids would either sit on the patio watching the rain hitting the newly budded flowers or drying off from jumping in the muddy puddles. 364 days a year, there was always something the patio could offer us!

One of my most memorable patio moments took place last summer. I was babysitting my 3 little cousins and I had set up one of those little kiddie pools on our patio and filled in with water and bubbles. I spent all morning and afternoon playing games with the kids as they splashed around and covered everything with bubbles. They even ate their hotdogs that I cooked for them and drank their kool-aid in the little pool. I was so exhausted from running around with the kids that after they were picked up at 3pm, I fell asleep on the patio in one of our long, reclining deck chairs. An hour later I woke up and I was just roasting in the sun… and unfortunately had fallen asleep with my arm across stomach, leaving a perfectly outlined hand burn right across myself.

The next day was my schools big beach trip and my friends never let me forget how ridiculous I looked with that huge hand burn across my stomach… however, the day that I spent with the kids, splashing around on our patio, was totally worth the ridicule.

And that’s my story! Thanks for reading 🙂

Those are the moments in life that you sit back and just take it all in. The times that my family is together around that patio table is the most comforting thing.
